Flamenco dancer Rocío Montoya

Born in Granada in 1981, Rocío Montoya is a renowned flamenco dancer whose name is known internationally in the world of flamenco. She immersed herself in the art from an early age, starting to dance at the age of 4 in her home city of Granada. Her training led her to study with leading masters such as Maite Galán, Mario Maya, Eva “La Yerbabuena” and Alejandro Granados, and she earned her Diploma in Spanish Dance from the Granada Professional Dance Conservatory.

Rocío has left a lasting mark on the flamenco stage through her work with various companies and productions. She worked with Mario Maya’s company, performing at the Seville Flamenco Biennial and the Jerez Festival, among other major events. She was also a dancer with the Centro Andaluz de Danza, sharing the stage with leading figures such as Belén Maya, Rafaela Carrasco and Manuel Liñán.

At 21, Rocío moved to Madrid and joined Rafaela Carrasco’s company, making her debut as a dancer in the Spanish capital. In 2006 she premiered her own show, “Acordes Pintados con Palabras”, at the Teatro “La Chumbera” in Granada, followed by a successful tour throughout Spain.

As part of the company “Flamencos en Route”, Rocío has toured Europe with the show “Mírame”, directed by Brigitta Luisa Merki. Since 2005 she has been a flamenco soloist with Riverdance, taking her art to countries all over the world.

Rocío’s achievements in flamenco have been recognised with numerous awards, including first prize at choreography competitions in Granada and the Breakthrough Artist award at the 1st ONCE Flamenco Festival of Andalusia.

Rocío Montoya remains an iconic figure in flamenco, bringing the passion and grace of Granada to stages around the world.
