Yasiel Nahin (Flamenco dancer)

Flamenco dancer Yasiel Nahin

Jasiel was born on 14 February 1995 in San Carlos, Mendoza (Argentina). He inherited the essence of flamenco from his mother, while his homeland gave him its folklore and tonada (traditional song), so his destiny was always going to be flamenco. It was later, in Andalusia, that his successful career truly began.

From the age of 5 he trained in Argentine folk dance with Benito Gonzales, while also studying at the Marisie Institute of Spanish Dance, giving him a solid grounding in Spanish dance, contemporary, classical and flamenco. He also studied guitar and music theory at the Tunuyán School of Arts.

He continued his studies at Amor de Dios (Madrid), Mariquilla’s dance school (Granada) and Lucía Guarnido’s dance school (Granada). He has also taken classes with renowned artists and choreographers such as Belén Fernández, Alejandro Granados, Farruquito, Pepe Torres, Alfonso Losa, Belén López, Paloma Fantova, Antonio Rodríguez and Pedro Córdoba, among others.

Throughout his artistic career he has received awards such as best dancer and breakthrough artist at various competitions, which set him on his professional path. His skill in Argentine folk dance is particularly noteworthy: it took him to Laborde, the capital of malambo, where he competed representing his native Mendoza.

His passion for flamenco, his compás and his strength caught the attention of major companies, with whom he has toured non-stop. In 2018, with the company Heartbeat of Home, he performed at the leading theatres of Shanghai, Beijing, Berlin, London and Zurich, among others. That same year, the local council of his home town awarded him a special distinction for his career and for representing the town as a flamenco dancer in Spain. In 2019, with the company Noche Flamenca, he toured San Francisco, Philadelphia and New York, where he received excellent reviews in the New York Times.

Jasiel Nahin’s artistic development and his years of learning and living in both Andalusian and Cuyo culture have led him to showcase the union of the two. In 2019 he premiered “Mirando dentro” in Argentina, bringing to the stage the moments and experiences of his journey through dance. At the end of that year he ventured into audiovisual production, releasing his first reel, co-produced with Leannister Estudio.

In 2021 he won the “Salinas de Oro” award in the dance category at the 2nd Primavera Flamenca Competition in Torrevieja, which led to a gala performance at the Teatro Mayor in Alicante. That same year he premiered the show “El andar”, which brings together the purity of both cultures, combining passion with what could become a new form of expression.

His next show, “Entre dos tierras”, is a look through dance and theatre at the struggle between heart and mind.

Jasiel is creativity and passion: tremendous strength, a time-honoured compás fused with the freshness of youth. Knowledge and talent, that is Nahin.

Today, Jasiel regularly takes to the stage at our Tablao Flamenco La Alborea, always with his art and trademark sense of humour.
