José De La Marga (Flamenco guitarist)

Flamenco guitarist José de la Marga in Granada

José de la Marga grew up surrounded by anvils, hammers, cante (flamenco song) and guitar. His mother is Marga Córdoba, a renowned singer in Granada who often performs at our Tablao La Alboreá, and his father, Juan “El Apañao”, is a blacksmith and also a singer.

He grew up between Granada and Málaga. From an early age he worked at the forge with his father while also singing, and as a child he even headlined at the Peña La Platería. But one day, at the age of 12, José woke up and decided he no longer wanted to sing, even though he showed great promise as a singer. That was the start of his career as a guitarist, the role he is known for today. José began spending his nights surrounded by great artists and playing at various peñas (flamenco clubs) and tablaos.

José has great qualities that surprise those around him and give him an edge over others: from a very young age he has had the knowledge inherited from his parents, and he knows when to hold back, when to soften and when to take the lead.

Over his 31 years and long career, he has continued to learn from masters such as El Viejín, El Paquete and Diego del Morao, great names in flamenco music.

José has already accompanied great flamenco figures such as Juan Ramírez, Morenito de Íllora and El Torta de Jerez. He is currently based in Granada, building his career at festivals, theatres, peñas and tablaos such as ours, La Alboreá, where he performs regularly and delights audiences with his great musical talent.
