Rubén Campos (Flamenco guitarist)
Rubén Campos was born in Granada on 26 December 1982. He trained with guitarists of the stature of Manolo Sanlúcar, José Jiménez “El Viejín” and Rafael Habichuela, and in occasional courses with José Suárez “El Paquete”, Gerardo Núñez, Emilio Maya and “El Entri”. He has accompanied leading figures of flamenco song and dance such as Juan Ramírez, Antonio Canales, Antonio “El Farru”, Fuensanta “La Moneta”, Patricia Guerrero, Estrella Morente, José Enrique Morente, Antonio Carbonell, Encarni “La Nitra” and Luis “El Zambo”, among others.
He has performed at many flamenco festivals: the Jerez Flamenco Festival with Adrián Sánchez; the Seville Biennial with José Enrique Morente and Estrella Morente, sharing the stage with figures such as Arcángel, Carmen Linares and El Pele; Suma Flamenca in Madrid at the Teatro Español; and the Corral del Carbón in Granada, accompanying Mari Paz Lucena and José Enrique Morente. He has also played at international festivals such as Ibérica in the Czech Republic.
He has also performed at many tablaos and peñas (flamenco clubs) across Spain, such as Casa Patas and Cardamomo in Madrid, and Venta del Gallo, Tablao Albayzín, Los Tarantos and Jardines de Zoraya in Granada. He has toured many countries, including the United States, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, Belgium, France, Ghana, Mexico and Panama.
He has given guitar concerts with his show “La Calle del Pensamiento” at the Slovakia International Flamenco Festival, for two consecutive editions of the “Guitarras en Otoño” season in Granada, at the Auditorio Enrique Morente and at various venues in Granada.
He won second prize at the Ciudad de Ogíjares International Flamenco Guitar Competition in 2006. His recordings include “Venero” with Álvaro Rodríguez, “Una Guitarra Universal” and “Jóvenes Flamencos” (Granada Provincial Council). He is also a member of Juan Habichuela Nieto’s group, with whom he has recorded several albums, including one in 2015.
Today he continues to release new work and remains one of the leading names of flamenco guitar in Spain. Whenever his schedule allows, he plays at various tablaos in Granada, including, of course, La Alboreá, one of his favourite places to delight us with his exceptional talent.
