Flamenco singer José Fernández "Padre"

José Fernández, known professionally as José Fernández “Padre”, is an outstanding flamenco singer from Granada whose career has taken him to perform in many towns across his home province, such as La Zubia, Padul, Maracena, Huétor Vega, Salobreña and Huétor Tájar, among others. His talent and dedication have led him to prestigious events, including his 2006 performance at the long-running “Festival de Cante Grande Ciudad de Ogíjares”, a stage that has welcomed many great flamenco artists.

As well as his strong presence on the Granada scene, José Fernández has been invited to perform in various Spanish provinces, taking his art to places such as Burgos, Murcia, Almería, Cádiz, Seville and Huelva, and gaining recognition throughout Spain.

Throughout his career, José Fernández has had the honour of sharing the stage with renowned flamenco figures such as Luis de Córdoba, Julián Estrada, El Balao, Aurora Vargas, Pansequito, El Pele, Miguel Poveda, Manuel Silveria, Paco Cortés and Chicuelo. The admiration and respect between him and these artists is mutual, reflecting the quality of his work and his commitment to flamenco.

As well as performing as a soloist, José Fernández also sings for dance (“cantar atrás”) for several renowned dancers, including Eva Esquivel, Mariquilla, Isabel Madrid, Susana Sánchez, Silvia Lozano and Macarena Castilla. His ability to complement the dance with his singing shows his versatility and deep understanding of flamenco.

José Fernández has received recognition at many flamenco competitions throughout his career, standing out in contests across Spain. His most notable achievements include:

  • 2nd Prize at the Linares National Tarantas Competition (2010).
  • 1st Prize at the 38th Volaera Flamenca in Loja (2009).
  • 2nd Special Prize for Granaína at the 38th Volaera Flamenca in Loja (2009).
  • 1st Prize at the Montes Orientales Competition in Montejícar.
  • 1st Prize for Granaína in Granada.
  • 1st Prize at the Ciudad de los Montes Competition.
  • 1st Prize at the Ciudad de Padul Competition.
  • 2nd Prize at the Ciudad de Las Gabias Competition.
  • 4th Prize from the Federation of Flamenco Peñas of Andalusia.

These awards reflect his dedication and talent, consolidating his reputation as one of the great flamenco singers of his generation. José Fernández “Padre” remains a relevant and respected figure in the world of flamenco, bringing his voice and his art to every stage he steps on.
